Deconstruction of Recycled Denim

"Deconstruction of Recycled Denim" explores the transformation of discarded denim into a statement piece that redefines waste as a source of value. Inspired by the sustainable philosophy of Japanese brand KUON, I deconstructed secondhand jeans and jackets to create an oversized, patchwork denim jacket that celebrates imperfection, age, and repair. Drawing on techniques like visible mending and asymmetrical paneling, the final piece pays homage to traditional Japanese boro while addressing the environmental impact of textile waste. Each stitch and patch reflects a conscious decision to extend the life of materials and reframe damage as beauty.
